/ About the project
This music video was shot with and for Duck Fight Goose (上海市). It was shot in a real Shanghai hostess bar (with some of the actual hostesses) back in 2014. It was right before I moved to LA and, more importantly, it was right before I died. In case you're wondering, I did survive that part.
After getting a swanky new mechanical aortic valve, life kinda just moved on, and the music video got shelved.
For no particular reason. And with a lot of work still left to do to finish the thing.
Sometime around the pandemic, I decided to dust it off and get it done. The insanely talented illustrator/animator Alex Gamsu Jenkins agreed to help, and we set about a 2024 release date, as "10 years later" felt like an appropriate amount of lapsed time. I decided to use the original demo track we used to shoot with back in 2014 (as opposed to the final track that was mastered and released on the album) because it felt more in tune with the spirit of what this became. And since we were going back to the demo, I asked another badass by the name of Fili Bibliano (from the metal band Intranced), to add a tiny bit of electric guitar, just to bring it all home.
Finally, I got some help from another legend. A music video editor named David Checel to help me finish it all up in between Eminem and Billie Eilish videos. And here we have it. All in all it came out pretty rad.
